Lake Julianna is an approximately10 acre private lake situated on a 40 acre property, located just north of Duluth Minnesota. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of undeveloped forest, this is likely one of the largest, most secluded private bodies of water you'll find this close to a city of Duluth's size, and is available for your relaxation.
Named for our daughters Juliette and Annabelle, the lake is a dynamic wetland that has very different attributes depending on the season and precipitation. It's fed entirely by a creek that swells each spring with the snowmelt from a nearby marsh. After ice out, the depth can reach nearly 10 feet in some places. As the year goes on, the creek begins to slow, and the water levels drop accordingly, sometimes 24 inches. In late fall, a sunken island may emerge just in front of the pine tree seen in the picture to the left. In 2007 an incredibly wet week in early October brought the creek back from dry, and swelled water levels to their maximum springtime depth by the time ice appeared in November.
What you experience during your visit may vary greatly depending on Mother Nature. Luckily, this wetland is beautiful and serene at all times of the year regardless.
